“You’re Growing a Jungle Out There,” He Said

Every year I bring my outside plants in, with the best of intentions to winter them over successfully, so I won’t have to purchase new ones in the spring. And every year, I fail dramatically.

Herbs, coleus, geraniums… shriveled, dried up. Gone.

My house is dark with little natural sunlight inside because I’m surrounded by the trees I love. My house is cold, because I prefer it that way. I forget to water my plants because I’m too focused on other things.

But I don’t like letting living things go to waste. So every fall into winter I try again.

This year I have hope! My new office has a large enclosed hallway connecting me with the other offices in the building – and that hallway has huge, sunny windows!

The person making the comment was right! I now have a mini jungle out there that seems to be thriving, and it fills my heart.
